Hiii :D
So my second review is going to be yet another Tower
Defense. This game is called Dungeon Defenders and goes under an Action Strategy RPG Indie game. Wow, they got long genres, right? So what’s so
unique about Dungeon Defenders? Well, besides the fact that it reminds a bit
about Sanctum, it is again the fact that you’re not only building towers. You
also got a hero, which you play with, and that hero is a key part in keeping
your defences.
Now I
went on Steam and bought this nice little piece of work for 11,99€ and I must
say that it was worth every cent. So what is the point of Dungeon Defenders?
Well!
In
Dungeon Defenders you control one out of four (9 with DLCs) heroes and defend
these so called ‘Eternia Crystals’ from waves of evil monsters. An Eternia
Crystal is a crystal (darr?) which has lots of evil monsters imprisoned in it.
Your parents said “Hey! Everything is fine, let’s go hold a vacation!” and left
their children to watch out the castle. They accidently smack an Eternia
crystal, and now they have to defend the rest so that they don’t fall in the
paws of the evil guys.
Playing
the game

| Startup screen :P |
Now as
any outright n00b I went playing the tutorial with my mage ‘Tikki.’ What I like
is that you’re able to choose between 3 options. Option A is to do a short
tutorial. B is to do the full tutorial and C is to completely skip it. The
tutorial has been voiced, and allows you to play with instead of just staring
at the screen watching a robot play for you. You’ll quickly get the hang of it
in no time, and even the dumbest noob will be able to figure out how to play
this game.
Now I
only said play, not surviving. Dungeon Defenders offers a challenging variety
of maps, and challengers in which you can try your skills. One misplaced tower
could mean failure, except if your hero is strong enough to take care of it.
However
after playing some time alone it can get a bit boring, and a bit hard. But not
to worry! There’s a multiplayer option. :D
Playing
online as a pro!
Now after
clicking multiplayer and selecting my character I looked for a game. Or rather,
I had the game look for a game for me. Did you catch that :/? Oh, you know what I mean! So clicking the big shiny
button called “Quick Match” and you’re good to go! You’ll quickly join a game
with others on your level, and quickly you become a team. It is as simple as
that.
Dungeon
Defenders focus a lot on teams coming together to try and defeat these
challenges. Even without internet, you can hook, up to four players, to your
computer and all play Dungeon Defenders. All four of you can also go online,
and look for challenges.

| Let's kick some Dark Elf behinds! |
Once you’re
in the game, if you’re new, you’ll quickly get told what to do, and where to do
it. No one goes “OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, LET ME DO IT!” The community is
friendly, and quickly you gather up some mates that you’ll play with. It can be
hard to get your friends to play with you though, because Dungeon Defenders
requires a descent computer to run. A fun fact is that the engine used to
create Sanctum is the same they’ve used to create this game :D
Google,
my dear friend!
Now after
doing a little bit of a googling (Is that a word) I found out that Dungeon
Defenders is an improved game of a demonstration done on the Unreal Development
Kit’s website to show off the power of the tools. It’s a fun way to see if you
like it, and it did hold me entertained. However, I do recommend that you go
and buy the game, as the game has improved so much more than this
demonstration, with tons of more maps, challenges, heroes, and I could go on.
Quickly
summing it all up
If you do
not know you’d like it I recommend you go play the demonstration (Link here)
to see if the genres fits you. If it does I do REALLY recommend that you go buy
it. It can be bought on steam for 11,99€ which is a good price for the
limitless hours of entertainment ahead.
